Palma Ceia Joins Wi-Fi Alliance® to Promote Adoption of Wi-Fi HaLow™ (802.11ah) for IoT
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., MAY 18, 2017
Palma Ceia SemiDesign (PCS), a provider of next-generation wireless connectivity solutions, today announced it joined Wi-Fi Alliance®, a global non profit industry association driving the adoption and interoperability of Wi-Fi® devices, as a Contributor member. PCS is a fabless semiconductor company offering wireless chips, systems and IP focusing on connectivity solutions for emerging Wi-Fi and cellular standards serving Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications and other markets.
“We welcome Palma Ceia SemiDesign to Wi-Fi Alliance and look forward to their contributions in developing solutions for the Internet of Things market,” said Edgar Figueroa, president and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance. “We invite participation from companies like Palma Ceia in Wi-Fi Alliance to deliver long-range, low-power wireless capabilities important to IoT applications.”
PCS offers wireless chips, systems and IP focusing on connectivity solutions for emerging WiFi and cellular standards for Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications. New standards PCS is addressing include 802.11ah, LTE NB1 and LTE M; and already offers a Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) transceiver and is developing associated digital components, as well as application-specific modules and systems. Founded in 2012, the company has delivered silicon-proven IP for Wi-Fi standards such as 802.11ac, 802.11ax and 802.11ah.
Wi-Fi Alliance has introduced Wi-Fi HaLow™ as the designation for products incorporating IEEE 802.11ah technology. Wi-Fi HaLow operates in frequency bands below one gigahertz, offering longer range, lower power connectivity to Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ products. Wi-Fi HaLow will enable a variety of new power-efficient use cases in the Smart Home, connected car, and digital healthcare, as well as industrial, retail, agriculture, and Smart City environments.
“Palma Ceia will contribute and actively participate in Wi-Fi Alliance, especially to see the commercial deployment of Wi-Fi solutions like Wi-Fi HaLow,” said Greg Walker, chief administrative officer of Palma Ceia. “Wi-Fi Alliance is an exemplary organization and the Wi-Fi logo is respected as a mark of reliability and interoperability.”
